So I can strap on one of those backpacks and ride nonstop across the country, charging while I go? 
Take the 11 billion dollars that NASA is spending to go back to the moon and use that for the development of highly efficient solar panels and I bet we'd have the ability to do just what you said.
And yes, these packs that Harlan has for sale are very cool for charging phones, ipods, etc.
