RIP FFH Volt now or wait for Ford Focus EV

If you follow me on Twitter you have seen the fate of my Fusion Hybrid. Im sure most dont but I wont hold it against you . Anyway, the car has been totaled by a "mulch fire" of all things... For now I am stuck with a rental. I could go get another Fusion Hybrid but I wanted to take the opportunity to upgrade to a full EV.

So if you where in my shoes, would you:

a. Just buy another Fusion Hybrid $30000~

b. Spend the extra 9K and get the Volt out of state $43000~(-$7500 Fed) + (-$6000 Colorado)

c. Wait possibly 6 months for the Focus EV $35000~ (-$7500 Fed) + (-$6000~ Colorado)

I like to get my cars fully loaded so the prices should reflect that. I got my last Fusion Hybrid for 30K sticker was 33,600. With the Focus I would have to wait possibly 6 months until I could buy one, which would force me and my wife to share her Kia Sorento during that time (18 mpg avg)... though I would have to ride my motorcycle 90% of the time which is both a good and bad thing considering weather.

Im sure I will have to pay full MSRP for the Volt or the Focus EV...

ok...well I just got a call yesterday from my Nissan LEAF dealer telling me my LEAF will be in on the 18th or so...I told him I had just bought a Fiat 500 and would likely pass on the LEAF...

I could hold it for you Buyer if you want...would be a bit of work...the car is going to Seattle, WA...

Well thanks for the offer Gavin, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I am just not that into the Leaf. I just cant get used to the design. Same thing with the Prius, not my cup-o-tea...

Totally understand...that is the main reason I'm passing...don't need nor want basically a station wagon...just wanted small and ev...went with small for now with my Fiat...hopefully will go small and EV in a couple of years...

Yes, on Autoblog Green... didnt get much response there other than, "buy the Volt"

As long as you don't mind the packaging / styling of the Volt and would get decent use of its electric-only range, I don't see any reason to buy the FFH at similar after-subsidy pricing.

I'm pretty excited to see what Ford brings to the table.  Id say, if you have another car for weekend getaways or can travel by plane/train/boat, go for the Focus.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it. I have decided to just wait for the Focus EV... if Ford can keep it around $33k I will already be saving $8k over the Volt. In the meantime, its warming up here in Colorado, and I can use my motorcycle to get to work and my wife's car the rest of the time. Come October, I may have to get a rental for a month or 2, no big deal.

On a side note, I actually went and looked at the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid at McDonald Hyundai here in Denver... compared to the FFH I was not impressed, at all. The car itself is beautiful but the wheels are just ugly as hell. Rides nice, but get this, they had a 10% "Market Adjustment" addendum tacked onto the MSRP. Shady bastards also added a clear bra for 599 and something called fabric shield (stain protection) for 499. They would not sell the car without that garbage either. So the price for a base HSH was the same as a fully loaded FFH being that Lakewood Fordland sold me mine for $3k under MSRP ($30k). Loaded HSH there was more than $36k on the addendum!!! Hell no... do people actually fall for this crap?

Anyway, Im gonna put in my pre-order in at Lakewood Fordland and just wait...

LOL, I guess people dont fall for that one anymore considering that manufacturers typically warranty well against rust... but I have seen that crap add-on too. These things are never optional either which should be a red flag for most. If you see ANY addendum on a new car its a sure sign that this "stealership" will try and rip you off.

The only reason I stuck around after the test drive was for my own entertainment... and I wasnt let down either... I mentioned that I was looking at a Volt and the sales manager went off on some tangent about how "EV's are a scam"... I bit my tongue, but really he was talking to the wrong guy.
