San Francisco to provide free EV charging
« on: May 10, 2011, 10:07:21 AM »
Last night on the local news it was reported that the city of San Francisco will be installing EV charging stations in all of their city-owned parking garages and in the (city-owned) San Francisco International Airport parking garage. The cost for charging your vehicle will be free for the first 18 months after the charging stations are installed.
current bikes: 2018 16.6 kWh Zero S, 2011 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Classic, 2009 BMW F650GS, 2007 BMW R1200R, 2005 Triumph T-100 Bonneville, 2002 Yamaha FZ1 and a 1978 Honda Kick 'N Go Senior.

Gotta love SF, always at the forefront of tech...
Wish I was still living there...
But since I'm not, I wish the city of Scottsdale or Phoenix could do something like that as well :D

I saw that article and saw that most of the negative comments were to the effect that the taxpayers would be paying for the electricity, oblivious to the fact that in order to charge you'd have to be paying for parking -- effectively they're offering a discount to EV's and it may drive a little more business to those garages while also promoting EV's. To me it would just be an expensive way to charge my Enertia (those garage rates are ridiculous).

I wish they'd give EV's an exemption to the parking meters (for now). Heck for my personal needs it would be sufficient if they wouldn't ticket EV bikes parked between car spots (with expired meter).
