Electric plane sets speed record
« on: July 07, 2011, 07:56:39 PM »
Here is something a little different. A 175 mph electric airplane. Not big enough for you, though. Read about it here: http://ecogeek.org/component/content/article/3550
current bikes: 2018 16.6 kWh Zero S, 2011 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Classic, 2009 BMW F650GS, 2007 BMW R1200R, 2005 Triumph T-100 Bonneville, 2002 Yamaha FZ1 and a 1978 Honda Kick 'N Go Senior.

Oh it's big enough...it just happens to be a single passenger...but then so are all the Brammo models :)

Total battery capacity smaller than the Enertia. I don't recall the Enertia making it to 175 mph though :>

Quick sidenote: A 1.5 kwh battery powering a 35 hp / 26 kw motor needs a pulse discharge of > 17C. That's pretty big as far as big battery packs go. Some A123 cells claim burst discharges of 70+C, which sounds (and is) ludicrous.

Hmmm... Does anyone know if they are going to sell it to the public? A plane that size would be almost the same as a flying car... an electric flying car! And it's not much smaller than the Jetson's.
Damn, now I want one! It will look good next to my Empulse. ;)

That tiny plane is called a Colomban Cri-cri, and you have to build it yourself. The biggest hurdle with that, though, is that the guy who designed it isn't selling his plans anymore, except to his friends. Oh well. Perhaps he was fed up of people not being able to build it properly...

I'm going to just wait for Brammo to make an Empules for me. Bikes are dangerous enough. I don't need to try to kill myself in a home built airplane! :-\
