Bar mounted wind blockers
« on: January 08, 2012, 06:36:06 PM »
For anyone looking for a cheap and easy to install set of wind blockers to keep the cold wind off of your hands I have one solution.  After having breakfast at Alice's Restaurant this morning, a fellow that I see occasionally with a Honda 599 showed me a set of very lightweight plastic wind deflectors that he had just installed on his handlebars. They weren't exactly full coverage, but they were cheap and very easy to install, as they clamp on to the bars at one end and are unsupported at the other end, but they seemed sturdy enough to take wind pressure at speed. He said that he bought them from Cycle Gear on sale for $20 last week. That is the best deal that I have seen yet for wind deflectors and it is clear that they will fit any bike with 7/8-inch tubular bars. He said that he was happy with his purchase and that they did a good job of keeping the cold wind off of his hands.

I can't seem to find them on the Cycle Gear site.  Maybe I'm using the wrong search term.  Anyone care to give it a shot?

Those Cycle Gear "brush deflectors" are what I saw on the bike.  I wish I had taken a photo, they look a lot better in person than what is shown on the product "photo" (which isn't saying much).  They might block wind, but they sure won't block "brush" unless the brush is moving very slowly.  They look kind of cheap, but they are cheaper than they look.   ;)

Their claim to fame is that they are cheap, light, a universal fit, and work better than nothing.   :)
