Temperature extremes....
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:07:07 PM »
Ok....so I've ridden the Enertia at 9 degrees this winter.

Today at lunch my display showed 108...

I thought it was probably an error...but my computer says this:

so I'm sure the battery compartment was at 108...

which raises the question....

what is too hot for the bike?

any answers?

she road fine, but I don't want to hurt her....

wow, that sounds like a line from a country song...

About the only thing the Owner's Manual says regarding ambient temperature is:
Quote
By following the tips listed below, one can assure long life and high performance of your Enertia's Battery Modules:
*Operate your Enertia at temperatures below 104 degrees F, charge at temperatures between 32 degrees F and 113 degrees F.

It's a "test-ride," right?  Test the heck out of it. Or, as I saw on someone's FB today: "When life throws you curves, lean into them."
The highest I've ever seen on my temperature gauge was 106.  I was much less worried about the bike than I was about me.  I could leave my visor open and it felt like a hot air drier blowing on my face, or close it and feel like my head was in an oven.  That wasn't the most fun ride home, but I felt a special kinship with the other riders I saw that day.

Interesting....I thought, hmmm, it feels a bit warm, but really not that bad :)

But then our humidity is about 2% today....

what i think is funny is that here I will look at the weather and it will say something like...94 degrees, feels like 87 degrees...which is crazy...when we lived back in Baltimore it would says...84 degrees, feels like 94 degrees...or 93 degrees, feels like you want to shoot your neighbor and then yourself....

or something like that.

Yeah, in KC, it's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

Hey, go look at my temperature-related post: "Being a better Brammofan."  Would like your comments on it.

Well, I didn't beat you, but it's definitely a tie.  It is, however, my personal high score:

108 degrees and a tubful of humidity.

Getting near the upper limits....

It was a bit of a cheat as she had been sitting in the New Mexico sun for an hour...was only 100 degrees out...the battery temp actually was at 115, but I was driving and couldn't get a photo til I got to a stop light...

It slowly went down...115 to 107 in a couple of miles and then stayed at 107.

Phoenix could be an issue...if the Battery temps get higher than the ambient air, well Phoenix is often at the thermal limits of 120 degrees...adding 7-9 degrees to the battery compartment could be a concern.

We rode in the Pride Parade today...Fun...but HOT...riding slow as my passenger, my niece, was on the back throwing candy to the kids.

It was crazy...thousands and thousands of people...

I tried to do some video...but first time with the camera, so we will see.

To busy to check it till tomorrow...after the parade we drove to the Zoo, then back to the pool and now off to my brothers for his birthday...and it is still over 100 degrees...

This photo is on the way home from the Zoo...getting close to the limit here...

Hey, at least you have power.  We were without power from Friday night until about an hour ago and the temps were similar to yours.  I really have no idea how people lived before AC, or at least fans.
