Hello from Orange County, CA
« on: June 22, 2010, 04:42:58 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm thrilled there is a forum for just Brammo Owners to talk about the best electric bike ever... the Brammo Enertia!

I have commuted in my Brammo in the last 6 months since I got it back in January, and still love every moment of it! I have not noticed any decrease in battery life nor have I run into any problems, but I've only had it for 1265 miles as of today. The only gripe I have about this bike so far is how loud the fan is while charging and when you go over 50mph for an extended amount of time. It's like a really loud vacuum cleaner!

My other gas bike is a BMW R1200GS :D

Nice, i'm in lake forest, we're practically neighbors lol. Did you get your Enertia from Best Buy in El Segundo?

Been there, but no. I bought it a few weeks ago used (440 miles) up in Frisco.

All the best,

Welcome to the forum. I bet other owners would be interested in the daily spreadsheet you use to track the statistics of your Enertia miles.

I was going through your pictures. Do you have a Zero? I am interested to hear how they compare!

Oh no, I don't own a Zero, I test drove it took pictures. This was the "upgraded" zero that was older but upgraded to the current spec with the hose. One thing I noticed was the lack of a smooth throttle control on this particular bike, acceleration was bumpy and if you tried to maintain a speed it would speed up and then slow down and then suddenly jerk forward as if the throttle control didn't have a computer attached to it and was completely analog. I've been told this problem is fixed in the newer models this year though. I test drove the Zero in January 2010. I also didn't like the riding stance where you are leaned forward, it was too uncomfortable and unnatural for me. The fit and finish was very iffy as well, it didn't look or feel like a production motorcycle to me.

You must have rented it from EDR.

I have heard everything thing you said from other people who rode the Zero.

All the best,
Aaron Lephart

Hey PPC, I wanted to ask about your spreadsheet.  What exactly do you do to fill in the blanks every day?

And I, for one, salute your Wizard's Level of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that it must take to keep this up for 6 months!

I fill in the odometer miles, kilowatt hours my meter reads in the morning when I unplug it, and the daily average gas price for Orange County on that day from here : http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/CAmetro.asp

Everything else is automatically plugged in using the formula I made for the spreadsheet. And thanks for appreciating my OCD keeping this spreadsheet up. I find a odd sense of satisfaction keeping records on things I care about, and I love efficiency! Except on those days when I'm experimenting on how much power I could consume by going WOT as much as I can...   :-X

.  That's what I thought.

I did the "copy this spreadsheet" thing in Google docs and am thinking that there's something I can do to clear all the data, but leave the formula.  Any pointers on that would be appreciated.

 My kill-a-watt is on order.

you can try this template i just made: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AgzpETjNnvWAdDlTam5DZHdDZldRRmpqdGtDdVE3c0E&hl=en&authkey=COzOupcE#gid=0

The first entry for miles is the only one without a formula, all successive cells below it have formulas since the formula is just adding the previous value. If you want to add more cells to the spreadsheet just select the blank cell row with the formula and then select the empty cells you want to copy the formulas down to and hit control d to copy down.

Very cool.  Just for that, I'll name my next child after you.  (don't hold your breath).

I'm going to start using this as soon as I get my k-a-w!

So I got my kill-a-watt yesterday.
I have plugged the necessary data in (I think) for my spreadsheet:
Brammofan's Energy Efficiency Spread-sheet-o-matic

I got the rate information (column J) from the utility's website, rather than from my bill, so that may change if I get home, find the bill, and it shows something different.

I used about $0.25 worth of electricity getting to work and back yesterday.  Had I driven my Honda Pilot, I would have consumed a little over a gallon of gas.  Saved about $2.42 in direct energy costs.

According to the green calculator on the Brammo site, my car puts out about 20.4 pounds of CO2 emissions every day, versus the 3.3 pounds of CO2 it takes to recharge my battery from my utility's coal-fired power plant.  So I saved about 17 pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere by riding.

Pretty cool.
