New owner and a couple questions
« on: September 25, 2016, 05:19:37 PM »
Hi all.  Just got a 2013 Empulse R.

So why does the light above the headlight come on while the bike is charging and can I set it to not come on?

Is there a limit to how long you can leave the charger plugged in after it's reached 100% charge?
I have found no info that the factory issued cipper creek shuts off.

Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on the Empulse!

It is helpful to leave the bike plugged in after it reaches 100% because that extras time spent on the charger balances the small differences among the batteries.  If you press both buttons on the dashboard simultaneously, you'll see some numbers showing the battery with the highest voltage and the battery with the lowest voltage.  After the state of charge indicator shows 100%, the rest of the time is spent bringing the low batteries up to the level of the other batteries, if possible.

Press both buttons on the dashboard simultaneously again to return to the normal dashboard display board mode.

In addition to balancing the cells, leaving it on the charger also runs the battery heaters, if needed, which is a good thing in cold weather.

There's an easy way to not have the parking light come on while charging: remove the bulb. ;)

I appreciate the info.  I guess I should have asked the parking light question another way.
Does removing the parking light have any negative effect to charging?

None that I've seen in 36K miles.

I may have to do something similar for the tail light as well.  I don't want lights on when I'm charging.  Personal thing.

It does prevent some EV truck smashing into your Brammo on a dark parking lot.

You can rewire the parking lights to a switched source.

I hooked up the Pro-Oiler to a switched 12 V wire behind the head light.
This prevents the chain oiler from switching from GPS mode to timed mode if the GPS Satellite connection is not available for over 15 minutes.

The accessoire plug under the seat is also live when charging, so you cannot use that.

Lol, that's funny although I don't guess you were kidding.  I unplugged the parking light so it doesn't come on during charging or well at all.  I installed a switch at the rear of the bike to turn off the license plate and tail light during charging.

Mmm, I would never do that myself, as there might be a moment that I will forget to turn it on.
Best case scenario would mean a fine by the police.
Worse would be someone crashing into me at night.

No, I've been there  ::) When I used a switch for the (home made) Hydrogen generator on my ICE scooter.
It took just ONE occasion where I forgot to turn it off. :o BOOOOM!
