Empulse Real World Range
« on: December 20, 2015, 07:38:12 PM »
Hey guys, I recently went to a dealer selling the Victory Empulse and they seemed to miscommunicate the range of the bike.  How do you answer the question "how much range does it have?"

I'd like to go back and help them communicate this important feature better.

Cheers!

I typically get 80 miles on a charge of mixed use when calculated to 0% charge left.

Back in the mountains of Virginia I would see:
101.3 best ever city driving
75ish enthusiastic country road riding
50 HWY at 75-80 Mph
And 20-25 on the track.

The challenge, of course, is that there are so many variables: speed, hills, temperature, wind, rabbit starts vs. slow starts. So the answer necessarily involves a "range" for the range.

At 60F on a 20 miles (round trip) course of rolling hills, I calculated 60 miles at a very constant 75 mph and use this in my trip planning.

I can routinely get 90 to 100 miles within city limits.

On my commute route, that is about 60% freeway and 40% city, I count on a range of 70 miles.

70 miles is what I use for my general, conservative range figure. If my trip involves some city streets, and if I can keep my highway speed below 60 mph, then I'm pretty certain that I can go out 35 miles and make it back home.

My windscreen, I'd guess, gives me an extra 10%. Leaving it in Sport mode is better than Normal mode, IF I tame my right wrist, since the regen is much stronger and is a big help in the hills of San Francisco.

The Victory has a bit more range, doesn't it?

The last time I checked, the bike is unchanged (aside from aesthetics) from the 2014 Brammo. So the range of the 2015 Victory should be identical to a 2014 Brammo, discounting for battery degradation over time and use.

I am hoping that Victory is working hard on improving the Empulse for 2017. By then I maybe in the market for an upgrade.
2012 Zero S.......returned to Zero for a full refund after one year of problems

2014 Empulse going strong

The 2016 Victory Empulse has a slightly bigger battery than the Brammo Empulse of previous years.
And together with the narrower rear tire that should result in a small range improvement.

basically the grade up has to come from greater autonomy, but at least double or triple, if possible with the same weight. If this could be achieved it would be perfect. I'm talking about 30 kw batteries seem much but it should be the goal, and fast charger, but very fast.....we are at Christmas

Great info everyone, thanks!

Shinysideup-  I just want quick data that I can share with a dealer who has badly misinformed salespeople who are currently telling customers that the Victory Empulse has a range of 40 miles.  Period.  That's it.

Hopefully when I share some of these numbers with them they can speak more intelligently about the bike they are trying to sell.

40 miles might be for highway runs with speeds above 80 mph. Or in below freezing temps with a headwind!

2019?
Easy:
2009 I bought the Vectrix with 50 km range
2014 I bought the Empulse with 100 km range
2019 I buy my still unnamed bike with 200 km range.
See the trend?

PS: How about 400 km range in 2024?!
