Back to the CA DMV so you can fly in 2020
« on: January 10, 2018, 10:02:58 AM »
Yesterday, news reports stated that the U.S. government says that the current California vehicle license document sucks as a valid ID for flying on a commercial airliner. In order to fly from any U.S. airport after 2020, a new CA DMV license or ID card will be required. These licenses will begin to be issued by DMV offices starting January 22, 2018. In order to obtain this new "Federal-style" license or ID document, you will have to visit the DMV (plan to stand in line for hours) and present both your birth certificate and your Social Security card. However, you will still be able to fly with the old-style drivers license if you have a valid and current passport.
current bikes: 2018 16.6 kWh Zero S, 2011 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Classic, 2009 BMW F650GS, 2007 BMW R1200R, 2005 Triumph T-100 Bonneville, 2002 Yamaha FZ1 and a 1978 Honda Kick 'N Go Senior.

California just makes life harder every year.  Guns, vehicle registration, smog checks, what is next?

No gas powered vehicle sales under a gross weight of 10,000 pounds after 2040.  Stock up on electricity now.   ;)

What's really weird is passports.  When I renewed my passport I opted for the wallet sized "mini" passport (for an extra fee) in addition to the full sized model.  However, the mini only works for land or sea transportation between Mexico and Canada but is not valid for air travel.  A total waste of money---It has all the passport data on it, photo, etc.  but cannot be used for air transport anywhere.  So, even the enhanced drivers license is safer than your passport ?  You got to be kidding.  What a bunch of buffoons running our national security.
