We tracked down the bike! Can't say how but let's just say I got enough info to go off of when I initially inquired about the bike, and the owner today drove by the house I suspected it was at and sent me this picture! Dummy has it sitting in his front driveway!

Back in an earlier life....  Working as an auto theft detective....  I loved cases like this....  Not easy to prove that the guy actually stole the bike, but very easy to prove that he is in possession of stolen property....  A few simple question and you have an iron clad on-view arrest for possession of stolen property....  A felony in California....

Unless, maybe, your friend would like to work with police to get the dirtbag on selling stolen property, and not just possession?

I asked my friend if I should call the police and he didn’t want to get involved. Going home was first on his list. It’s easy for us to judge or pontificate but I had to honor his wishes. Where is the owner of this bike? Don’t they want it back?

I'm speaking with the owner and they are in a special circumstance where they don't want it back right away, but eventually yes.
