Ford EV owners to get access to Tesla Supercharger network

That is the title of an AP article published in my newspaper yesterday. According to the article all Ford EVs, both current and future models, will have access to about 12K Supercharger stations in the U.S. and Canada, starting in the spring. There will be a cost to Ford owners, perhaps a monthly subscription, but no details have been released yet.

At first, Ford's current EVs will need an adapter to hook into Tesla stations, but Ford will switch to Tesla's NA Charging Standard connector with is ts second-generation EVs starting in 2025. They will join Ford's 10K Blue Oval charging network. Ford EV owners will be able to access all of the 17K Tesla chargers seamlessly with Ford's app, according to Elon Musk.

Wow looks like Tesla is moving on up.  Still don't like that they are doing their own thing and now got someone to go along with em.  But the supercharger network is impressive.

It will be fascinating to see how this develops. Here in the UK, my nearest Tesla chargers are 50miles away, and not on a route I use ever. 70 or 90 miles away for ones I pass. I think the real issue, is the US CCS connector is poor. Being based on a J1772. The European basic connector has 3 phase AC power at charging stations (22 kW approx) , and works well as a CCS plug with 150kW DC matching Tesla for the most part.
In any case, cars need to have large batteries to sustain a high speed charging  for any length of time as start and end temperature needs controlling.

Charging cost in the UK is equivalent to 35mpg for CCS, 70mpg for Tesla and  normal home charging , 270mpg charging overnight at home on a low rate tariff. (You only have 4 to 7 hrs depending on your supplier, so can only part charge a car at 6.6kW/hr) .

What do you think will happen to non Tesla charging stations?

Yeah those charging stations aren't cheap.  I would only use it if I had to.  Here at least where I live in the Bay Area there are superchargers everywhere.

So if it's so expensive it is less incentive for apartment dwellers to get an EV.
