The Uno transforming motorcycle is back
« on: May 10, 2011, 05:38:24 PM »
I can't recall if this motorcycle has been discussed before on this forum. But the Uno is a fascinating folding/transforming electric motorcycle. It is currently running on SLAs and the designer is hoping that a "strategic" partner will come along to allow the bike to be powered by Li batteries. If you haven't seen this before, you have to check it out. I am really impressed with the chassis engineering that went into the design. Read about it here:

The Uno III is apparently now for sale. However it helps if you have access to English pounds. Here is the sale offer and another short interesting video about the vehicle. It appears that the fellow who makes these things won a TV inventor contest (say whatever happened to those contests, I thought they were kind of neat) that provided him $1,500,000 for a 20% of his company to get his vehicle fully developed and on the road.

Here is a link to the ad and the video: http://www.firebox.com/video/3182

I don't know how many of these things they will sell (especially at that price), but I really give the inventor credit for coming up with an unusual idea and managing to actually build it into a working vehicle that doesn't look like a Frankenbike. I really like the idea that it can fit into an elevator. That would be a real boon for an big city apartment dweller - provided you could sneak it past the management and into your apartment.

Sneaking it past the management may not be a problem, since it does not have the issues that would normally cause management to be concerned.
  • No dangerous volatile gasoline fumes
  • No messy oil leaking anywhere
  • No toxic fumes when the bike is running
I would expect that the Uno would be treated the same as if you wanted to haul your bicycle into your apartment. Go ahead, but just don't ride it in the hallways! :P

Well, the tires would likely be dirty.   ;D
