Gavin, what's the size of your belt. I run a Suzuki 650 Savage that still has the original belt on it. It's an '86 and has a lot more than 6,000 miles on it.

Gilera Fuoco / Piaggio MP3-500 belt...will look up the size...not sure...it is a CVT belt, so perhaps they wear out faster...

can't find specs...grrr...

The two-seater news and probably some other news will be formally announced this Spring. We just know about it here because we're special.

The belt on the BMW F800ST is good for at least 25,000 miles and the belts on Harleys can go two or three times that long. I think BMW is just being conservative. With a name brand belt like Gates, I would expect the Zero final drive belt to last at least 50,000 miles, as long as it doesn't pick up a rock. Belts don't like dirt, rocks or gravel.

Most of my life I've ridden sport bikes (Interceptors, Hurricanes, etc.), so the higher speed of the Empulse is attractive... but, as others have posted, how often do you really need to go that fast?

For me, I'm attracted to the 100 MPH figure, not because I plan to burn up my tires and batteries super fast but because I spend a portion of every single day on the freeways commuting.

A bike that will exceed a ton feels a LOT safer to me at 65 when I need to pass than one that's topped out at 75. It really comes down to available torque, I guess.

I commuted for several years on a BMW R1200R and the big twin really shot past cars in passing whenever I'd downshift and go to WOT. (Yes, I did 135 mph. Once.) Then I tried a Honda 250 Reflex. What a sad story on the highway! Now I'm on a TMax 500 which is a dream commuter, but decidedly anemic in that critical passing range.

What I don't know, of course, is how an electric bike, especially, say the Empulse, would deliver its torque at highway speeds. I suspect I'll be pleased! And for sure, around town, when you really need to move out of the way NOW, I'm sure, with its gearing, the torque will deliver impressively.

Yeah, on the Enertia I found that instant torque to be addictive...0-40 from a light and no car would be near me...a couple of times going 40 and I didn't like the car next to me (texting, on phone, playing with radio) and I would twist the throttle and instantly/quietly I would be at 50-55 and many car lengths ahead.

I imagine the Empulse will have the same feel on the highway that the Enertia has in the city...

Riding it just feels like the future....mmmm, I should trademark that... :)

I like it!

And of course for those of us on the Empulse wait list, riding it really DOES feel like the future ;D

ha...funny...

I should simplify it some...either

Riding it Feels Like The Future...

or just

Feels like the future.

or

Feel the Future

is the simplest of all...

on the internet it would be FTF

maybe Adrian needs an assistant :)   But I would be kinda expensive, especially for somebody with no experience....

The torque is still available at 100% on my Vectrix up until I hit the governed top-speed (68 MPH). Officially the Vectrix tops out at 68 MPH, but the speedometer reads 72 MPH before I feel the power cut-off to the motor.
The top-speed of the Empulse (100 MPH) would be really sweet, but the top-speed of the Zero-S (88MPH) would be more than adequate for passing (for me).

The organizational stability is very important (yes, I'm a Vectrix owner - been there). I was surprised that the founder/owner of Zero disappeared. It would be like Elon Musk leaving Tesla.

I don't think it is that unusual for startups to go through a bit of restructuring as they're getting the train rolling.  In fact Tesla is a prime example.  The co-founder, Martin Eberhard, who has Tesla #2, (second in line behind Elon who got Tesla #1), was given the boot a few years back as they were struggling to go into production on their roadster.

Wow....what I am is a fan...hopefully Zero will get some someday..

It was asphalt and rubber that mentioned Zero having money issues...go talk to them...

Or better yet find a Zero forum if you want people blowing sunshine up your behind...

I am glad you're getting a paycheck from Zero and want to defend them...

Me? Just a guy that likes the Enertia and wants to get a Plus ASAP...

Have a great evening.

Gavin (not affiliated with Brammo in any way....except they have been very nice to me vs the only Zero employee I have had the pleasure to communicate with).
