Are you tired of paying for gas? Would you love to own a motorcycle that you will never, ever, have to pull into a gas station?

If you are like me and want to own an electric vehicle, but don't have $35,000 for a Nissan Leaf or a Chevy Volt, then check out this electric motorcycle for $4,000!

For sale is my Brammo Enertia electric motorcycle. I've checked around and it is the only Enertia in Idaho. It was designed and built by Brammo in Ashland, Oregon. It is a 2009 model with ~1500 miles on it. It has a direct drive transmission, no clutch. Just smooth constant acceleration all the way to top speed. Very zippy and fun. You can't do a wheelie but I beat most cars off the line because you never have to engage a clutch to change gears. I've always stored this Enertia inside. For those that have never heard of an electric motorcycle or an Enertia here's some press:

What do people think of this deal?  I've been eyeing an Enertia since day one but can't justify the $8000.  I settled on an Enertia+ when they were $9000 (before the massive price hike).  This one seems like a pretty good price, but I also live 450 miles away and have no means of transport for it.

I have a 10 mile commute, which I can either take highway (55mph) or through town (more stop lights but more direct).  Electricity is about $0.12/kwh.  My existing ride is a Ford Taurus AWD that averages a dismal 21 mpg.

Looks like a good deal to me. Transporting 450 miles might not be too expensive. A) You can go with a dedicated motorcycle shipper, but they'll be more expensive (http://www.motorcycleshippers.com/). Or B) you can see if the seller will crate it and then you can solicit a quote from an independent shipper (http://www.uship.com/). Since ushippers are independent, the driver may even be able to accommodate a palletized bike or even an unprepared bike. The Enertia is so light, I (personally) would have no problems transporting it lightly tied down on its side stand. AND, there are no fluids to drain or a need to disconnect the batteries since they're nicely isolated from motor and charger.

BTW, is Raleigh, NC closer to you? :)

I live in Eugene, OR, so Boise is "close."  Ashland, of course, is closer, but I don't see Brammo cutting me a deal :)  I used to live out near Raleigh, actually, but I'm guessing the cost of shipping from Raleigh to Oregon is high.

You could also rent/borrow a truck and go grab it.

Shipping may be complicated because the batteries may or may not be classified as hazmat.

You could see if Brammo will give you a good deal on "my" old ride. Just ask for Gavin's Green Test Enertia.

5000 miles, but runs great.

I shipped a racebike to a friend in Bellingham, WA from Raleigh and I want to say it was $600. So yeah, that's pretty steep. If the seller in Idaho is willing, then it might not be too bad.

BTW, when my Enertia was shipped to me, BestBuy didn't do anything in particular about the batteries. They were shipped completely connected. All I had to do was flip up the mirrors and insert the key. That was a few years ago, so who know what's changed now that we've had a few more Li-ion gadgets go boom.

Hazmat is probably the wrong word. But I know's it's something called out on the shipping documents, and that only certain shippers will handle them.
