Forum Upgrade Time!
« on: January 17, 2013, 01:36:27 PM »
Early morning on 1/18 (~5 AM CST) I will upgrade BF to the latest version of the forum software.

I will look for a point where few folks are active.

Downtime should be < 20 minutes.

Please email me or reply to this thread with any issues. skadamo@gmail.com

What features will this bring BrammoFan? Will he gain a 30% increase in blogging activity? : )

30% of 0 = 0

I do miss blogging. Was thinking about it just this morning and how much fun it was.  Maybe I need to set some goals to help ease back into it.

Upgrade is complete. Over the course of the day I will be restoring some of the features. The link to the Wiki is not showing up so I need to figure that out.

Wiki works you just need to go straight to it for now... http://brammoforum.com/wiki/

Let me know if you notice anything else missing.

Yes - thanks skadamo.  I sure wish I knew why, when I'm at work, the header photo shows up only when I use Internet Explorer, not Chrome.  I'm pretty sure it has something to do with blocking ... just not sure what that might be.

Good first impressions from the forum upgrade. I like the search box in the top right.

There is a *lot* of overhead at the start of the page though. See attached a screen capture of a forum thread listing in firefox, running on a 1600x1200 display.

The red outline box is the actual thread listing.

This would of course be much worse on a smaller vertical height display, like 1080p or 1024x768.

Would it be possible to move the header Empulse image, perhaps into the header block at the top?

Thanks guys. Consider thanking www.simplemachines.org with a donation since they did the hard work :D

Protomech, good idea I will work on that.

The Insert Hyperlink button does not seem to work like it did in the old forum.

Old:
- Highlight some text.
- Press the Insert Hyperlink button.
  - A popup shows up in which I can enter the URL.
- Press the OK button.
- The text is marked up with the embedded URL.
Example:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.google.com]Google[/url]
New:
- Highlight some text.
- Press the Insert Hyperlink button.
- The text is marked up, and I have to manually add the URL.
Example:
Code: [Select]
[url]Google[/url]
This is a problem because I often forget what the exact syntax for those tags is.

Hmm might be a mod I did not add. Nice catch. Extra points for use of "code" bbcode!!

:D Thanks for supporting "code", else I would have had to say: SquareBracket ulr CloseSquareBracket, or something else like that. :P

I have another comment/suggestion.

Would it be possible to change the unread link color to something that stands out more. Right now the text is dark gray on light gray with black links. Previously it used to be blue links (and purple read links), which was much easier to spot.

I'm not saying you should use blue/purple (which is the default), but something more remarkable would be nice. Perhaps Brammo green?

Not sure which of these colors would make the best Brammo green:

One (basic "green")
Two (Sampled from the text: "Brammo Owners Forum")
Three (Sampled from the links on Brammo's Enertia page)
Four (Sampled from a photo of the Enertia tank)
Three (Another sample from the tank)

Not sure what color to use for read links either. A paler shade of green? E.g.
normal text Unread link normal text Read link normal text
normal text Unread link normal text Read link normal text
normal text Unread link normal text Read link normal text
normal text Unread link normal text Read link normal text
normal text Unread link normal text Read link normal text
