Hi there, new guy from Los Angeles here
« on: May 31, 2011, 06:36:54 PM »
Hi All,
I am the happy owner of a Brammo Enertia and loving every minutes of it. (Just got it delivered this morning). Unfortunately, I ordered my helmet online, and I haven't received it yet... So my Enertia is quietly waiting in my garage.
I have never owned a Bike before, so I may ask newbie questions (and maybe stupid ones), from time to time.
In the meantime, I just wanted to say hi, and join the momentum!

Hello and congrats...

I would say there are no stupid questions....but every now and then I get surprised :)

Heck most of the stupid questions come from me :)

That said, ask everything you need...the internet is a grand thing...

Happy riding...

Gavin

Howdy Bruce and welcome to the forum!

Do you have your motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license yet?  That's pretty important, too.
I'd also recommend:
1. a jacket with CE armor in the elbows and shoulders.
2. motorcycle gloves.

Along with a helmet, those were my first purchases.
A bottle of chain lube, too.   :D

The Wiki is a good repository of tips and ideas, so be sure to check that out.

Oh, and don't forget to add yourself to the Brammo Owners Map, too.

Well, I passed the written test but still need to take the riding test. I will be practicing in my quiet neighborhood until then.
I am picking up a helmet at a local store today (cancelled my online order, it was taking too much time...)
I'll make sure to get gloves as well. Any brand/style recommendations?
Thanks! ;)

Re: gloves.  Make sure you try a bunch on, and be prepared to be open-minded on size.  I thought I was a "large" and it turned out that I was "extra large" in "Speed and Strength" gloves.  I tried on quite a few.  I would recommend that they have some sort of impact protection on the knuckles and some cushion on the palm.

Cool that you're getting your helmet today.  Post some pics, if you have time.  And be careful out there.

I have 3 sets of gloves...a pair of leather fingerless gloves for summer (still will protect the palm with any fall...just remember to raise your fingers up off the ground), a pair of tourmaster full finger gloves for sping and fall and a pair of ski gloves for winter.

i never ride without gloves...seen a few hands of people who "deglove" their hands in a fall without gloves and it ain't pretty.

Gavin

if you have a strong stomach you can google image search degloved hand...but I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
Just got back from a store in town. Met with Dave our SoCal Brammo representative who was picking up some gear for himself! Helped me a great deal! Thanks, Dave.
Ended up buying a Scorpion EXO 900 helmet and a pair of reinforced leather gloves. Still on the fence about the jacket though. I want to see more models.
Again, thanks for the help guys!
