New Years Eve 2017 Mt Umunhum Ride
« on: January 04, 2018, 11:50:50 AM »
Sorry I just copied this from another forum but enjoy!

So I had to get one last ride in for the year and I thought hey they just opened up Mt. Umunhum not long ago and it goes all the way up to the Radar Tower now.  I used to work in Almaden Valley and would always look up at the Radar Tower.  If your ever in South San Jose and look up at the Santa Cruz Mountains you will see this box sitting on top of the mountain.  You can even see it from Lick Observatory.  I told myself one day I'm going to check that out upclose, well get your riding on because today is that day! :Party:Party So I rode a lolipop loop from Camden to Hicks Road up Mt Umunhum down Mt Umunhum then Hicks Road to New Almaden then Almaden Expressway then home.  This is a great ride because it's like right in my backyard and the Empulse can ride it all!  The road in great shape because they'd just finished working on it.  Before it was all chewed up.

Might as well take that electric bike it's been gathering some dust.

Made it to the top!

Google Earth

IRL

3300 FT at the top enough to punch through the clouds!  Ride to the clouds!

Feast for your eyes of the last sunset of 2017

Unfortunately I wanted to save this ride for a clearer day, but on a clear day you can get a good view on San Jose!

Stairs that take you from the parking lot to the Radar Tower

Weather radar ball

Cross that off my bucket list!

This is the ceremonial circle, Mt Umunhum is very native american place.  Umunhum actually means hummingbird in one of the Native American languages.

Nice yeah they had just opened it up to the public.  The only way to get up there before was if you lived up there or hiked or rode a bicycle up there.  Really happy they opened it up the public it's somewhere I always wanted to visit.

Nice videos. Thanks for the report. You have the same windscreen as I do on my Empulse. \

The only criticism I have, and it is a major one: Don't EVER let a Harley rider get ahead of you when taking off from a stoplight, as you did at the start of your vid. This is just really bad E-moto form! ALWAYS leave 'em wondering: What the heck was THAT?!
