Battery upgrade

Hi all

Does anybody of you know if it is possible  to upgrade the battery pack of our empulse to a new bigger/stronger one.    Maybe one from zero since they are in the same voltage range as the brammo.

Does anybody of you know if it is possible  to upgrade the battery pack of our empulse to a new bigger/stronger one.    Maybe one from zero since they are in the same voltage range as the brammo.

I have a bad module that I’m going to replace for a new one.
Meanwhile, I’m going to send the malfunctioning module to a battery expert in order to check if it’s possible to repair/update cells.

I believe we can put 120 18650 cells inside each module and using 3500mah cells, in a 4s30p schema, we can theoretically rise the module capacity from 90Ah to 105Ah.

I have one in mind to build with 2170 cells.
have already done some calculations and some CAD 3D modelling.
going for 28s28p 10Ah cells (110 volt nominal at 280A at 1C so 30KW of power)
that's around 16kWh

the BMS will be the challenge.

it will all fit in the existing battery cases.

I live in belgium Europe, so we have very limited support here.
Or maybe the new battery pack from the new victory empulse tt,but that is just 1kw more.

I'm waiting for my brammo cells to fail.
could take a while.
in the mean time the tech will only get better.

but only the cells at the moment would cost about 4000 euro.

I'm also in Europe, Portugal and here I assure you won't get any support also
You are closer to the main support provider in Germany.
I ordered my parts from a former Brammo Importer, from Spain (Nex or Next), specifically, from a former mechanic that still owns some of their stock.

Though I didn't receive it yet...

I would love to do it but I don't have the knowledge or skills.
If you keep the original connections (BMS, Temperature Sensors, Moister Sensors and Cell heaters, it should be able to work.

should be able to reuse most hardware.

but will need a different bms or some way to monitor the cells that don't have one, and some software alterations.


I think there are 28 (7x4) bms connections in the empulse.

Other solution could be removing the VCU and use the Sevcon as stand alone motor controller.
I believe the VCU just triggers Sevcon, besides all battery BMS, battery warmer and motor cooling.
That way we could use any battery Available with a autonomous BMS.
The charger is highly programmable.

This is good as I have a plan to add 4 52v 30ah batteries to mine which will add and extra 6.2 kwa to the system kicking it up to 16+

Gents - its been a while since there was an update. How goes your battery replacement progress?

I purchased 2 brammo's One is in A-1 shape which I converted into a reverse trike and the other is a salvage unit with minor damage. i am going to pull all the batteries out of the salvage unit and simply double up the existing. I am hoping to achieve at min 100 mile per charge highway and near 200 city. Right now it's 55 / 80 or so depending on driving. I keep it in 3rd gear and sport mode so I guess real world driving. To be honest the transmission is a really dumb idea as all you really need is 3rd or 4th but a good platform for my prototype "Zener - ecite"

I don't know the first gear rips from a stop, I think that electrics can benefit from a gearbox probably not need so many gears though.  It makes it more versatile lower gears for slower more technical riding then higher gears when you need the higher speeds.
