Brammo Empulse V78 Error code fix
« on: September 28, 2020, 07:53:33 PM »
So I finally got the V78 service code and after riding around for a couple days with it blaring on my screen. I tried to ignore it, but I just couldn't do it any more. I pulled off the necessary covers, disconnected the high power connection and pulled the VCU. The coin battery that was on the board was a soldered in one that I had to remove, but I didn't want to solder in a new battery, so I bought a 2023 holder with two pins and soldered it into the board. Once I had it in there, I added a battery (which is slightly larger than the stock one) and put everything back together. I then reset the time and viola, the code went away. I know there isn't much support for these bikes anymore, so I just wanted to let you know that it is an easy fix.

I had to order 10, so I have extras, though I should never need them.

I accomplished this with a cheap soldering iron and didn't need extra solder, I just used what was already on the board. I wish I was smart enough to get pictures, but I was in a hurry and forgot.

Hope this helps.

Hello scriz,

my Victory Empulse TT has the same V78 error code. This is due to the long transport time from Canada to Europe, because the traction battery has been disconnected for two months!

Can you please advise me how to replace the discharged button battery inside the VCU?
Do you have any photos from your repair?

Thanks
Karel

Edit:
I'm very happy today, because after setting the correct time, the V78 error disappeared :-)

I found a picture of the VCU main board where the location of the button battery can be seen 8)
