tesla roadster sales end soon
« on: June 27, 2011, 03:11:44 PM »
The Tesla roadster, the Empulse in the car world will be no longer be sold. This is such a big disappointment for the sport EV movement. It was talked about for years only to be born and live less than 2 yrs. Did they really think it would sell like hondas?? They should still sell it, but build fewer roadsters.

I hope the Empulse does not end up like this.  :'(

You know that this doesn't mean Tesla is gone, don't you?  They've got a Model S sedan that will be (hopefully) in production beginning the middle of next year.  They were always aware of the limited lifespan of roadster production due to the body being manufactured by Lotus and knowing that Lotus was going to be producing a certain number of bodies over a certain amount of time.

Tesla continues to be an amazing car company (just like Brammo continues to be an amazing motorcycle company).

Exactly, Brammofan

1less, production actually started in '08 and is still going on, so thats a good 4 year run.  Tesla is going to continue Elon Musk's world domination plan with the production of the Model S sedan and Model X crossover.  Like you, I would love to see the Roadster get into the hands of as many as possible, and I'm sure that Tesla will bring some iteration of it back in the future.  However, continuing production isn't solely their choice.  They decided to build on the Lotus Elise platform for its light weight and strength.  It just so happens that Lotus plans to cease production of the current Elise soon

oh,ok. I thought it was tesla quitting on the roadster because CNN just said the were not selling enough of them. Something like 1000 worldwide in 2011.

I think they've sold something like 1600 in total world wide. By mainstream car standards, it's not a lot; by the standards of two-seat $100k+ electric cars, it's very nicely done.

Let's see what Leaf and Model S sales look like..
