I wasn't actually thinking about the USB powering the gloves, although I can see by my rambling why you might have thought that.  The bike clearly has a 12V system in addition to the system that powers the motor because the headlight, tail light, and turn signals are all 12 V.  Just need to find where the closest point to safely tap into that, and one should be able to wire in a cig lighter socket... right?

ha...yes...of course i didn't mention that after riding 10 miles in -5 degree temps i seriously thought about cutting off my throttle hand shortly after arriving at work (when flesh slowly thaws it is surprisingly painful)

Loving this thread.

My 99 sv650 had a terminated 12 volt connector in the wiring inside the headlight. It was unused. I wired my heated grips to that on advice from an sv forum somewhere.

Brammo may want to consider that. But that would suck some of the fun out of this thread. :D

Good find!

I was thinking about the earlier comment/question you had about whether the USB connection on the bike is powered or not.  I don't know the answer, but this morning, after riding in the 40 degree temps and freezing my fingers, I researched a bit on heated gloves and... of course most of them have to be powered off the vehicle's 12V system.

Amazing that no one has yet to come up with a basic aftermarket 12v socket for the Enertia.  >:(

Didn't realize you guys started getting that cold so early, is that normal for this time of year? I don't recall it being that cold in my many years in Southern Ontario until closer to Halloween.

Brammofan, that cable looks pretty generic. So no clue what it actually carries.

USB is far too weak for heated gloves. It should be pretty easy to tap the 12v system in the Enertia though. I think it'd be pretty sweet to see the Empulse and Enertia Plus come with both a 12V DC and a 120V AC socket on them..

That would be a custom AC inverter right, or is there some simple way to get 120VAC from 72VDC?

Probably the easiest way to do it would be an inverter hanging off of 12V DC. Maybe not the most efficient way.
