That is much, much better.  But, I really would like to integrate the tail light into the seat/tail that is already there.  It might be a little sad at first, but I would probably get rid of all of that carbon fiber back there.

Nice improvement over stock. Integrated light / turn signal unit would be better. TTX tail would be even better.. so hot : )

But would it (gasp!) leave room for a top box?

I've heard many people comment that they didn't like to stock long tail, and I have not heard anybody say that they did like that long tail. I presume that the stock tail is there for some legal or technical reason. Can anybody shed any light on that?

It DOES help (sorta kinda) keep water off the passenger. Having a proper fender would have gone a long way more toward that task, however.

I really do want to be able to carry saddle bags and a top trunk. I don't have a car and use my motorcycles for 99.9% of my transportation needs. (The other percentage requires me to rent a truck).

So I'm quite willing to like the long tail, if it accommodates side and top cases. If there's no legal restriction on a shortened tail, maybe it could be offered as standard with the long tail to make the cases work made available as an option. Or vice versa.

If BrammoBrian changed his, I believe that it should be legal. I don't think Craig would let anyone working for him to break the law... but, then, I don't know Craig.  ::) It could also be a legal issue in some specific markets and they thought it would be easier to go with it than offer too many options in the first batch. They can tackle it on a second or third edition if sales are high enough.
In my opinion, Brian's mod looks good and if he is changing it, Brammo should be thinking on standard options for that tail. Unless, they made it on purpose to give people something to tinker with and get them more involved with the aftermarket community, increasing the general buzz around the brand.
Back lights, mirrors, and clip-ons are easy mods that any beginner can attempt without much risk and feel like they have an "unique" and more personalized motorcycle, so they have something to talk in forums like this one. ;)
People don't buy motorcycles for utilitarian purposes only (at least not in the US). So, building a community based on easy mods would definitely work in Brammo's favor in the long run.

Yes, to say I bought an Empulse only for utilitarian purposes is like saying I eat dark chocolate strictly for the antioxidant properties.  :D

Ha! I've run bikes with no mirrors, taped headlights, and race exhaust on the street here in Ory-gun.  This tail tidy is similar to ones you'll find in the aftermarket that make no claim one way or the other over it's legality.  Always check with your local authorities first... ;)

FYI... We've tested this bolt-on aftermarket windscreen from Twisted Throttle.com...

It's not as pretty as the forthcoming Brammo "official" windscreen, but it does work and it's not too pricey.

Same windscreen that Zero has been selling for the 2012 S bikes (with a big markup). I kind of liked how it looked until I saw it on a bike. Personal preference and all.

Terry @ offthegrid uses it, he thinks it helps aero some. So there's that.

You're not as Gung ho as Ain or Shinysideup then. They didn't wait at all before they started to modify their bikes!

I plan keeping my bike pretty much stock, but I'm probably going to get a windshield as soon as possible to help reduce drag at highway speeds. Thanks Brian, for letting us know that an official Brammo windshield is on the way, and that a reasonable substitute is available right now.
