2013 Empulse Blinkers not working
« on: July 20, 2015, 07:10:16 AM »
Hello everyone,

I parked my bike at my apartment the other day. I forgot to put my cover on it and it got rained on. Subsequently the blinkers didnt work this morning. Any pointers on getting the blinkers working again? Thanks!

When you say rain do you mean torrential downpour or light misting?  I've been caught in a few of the proverbial "cats and dogs" deluges (yes I just wanted to use that word), and I've found that some of the connectors up under the headlight area are more just water resistant than water proof.  I also had an issue with my speedo/tach assembly getting condensation in it.  I have since dried it and sealed it with silicone and haven't had any water ingress.

So I would suggest checking out the signal connectors for any remaining water, use some contact cleaner if necessary.

If both front and rear blinkers are out, I would suspect the handlebar switch gear, though it may well be a connector. I'd start my opening the switch halves, blowing in some compressed air, and then spraying with WD-40.

I second Shinysideup. My horn stopped working and it was the horn button.

When I bought my Zero the signals did not work.  It turned out to be the blinker relay.  The shop removed a relay from another Zero on the showroom floor, installed it on my bike and it has been working perfectly ever since. It is most likely either the switch or a bad contact as mentioned above, but it that doesn't work, it could be the signal blinker device. They are relatively cheap and seem to be very similar between motorcycle models and brands.

I'm going to try Shinysideups fix opening up the turn signal halves and spray in some air. I'll post back what was the result.

Working on the bike today I sprayed some compressed air into the turn signal around the handlebar switch gear and later WD-40. That didnt help the problem so I believe Ill need to replace the signal blinker device as both left and right sides are not working. I plan on sealing my tach with silicone like vtbrammorider did. Any recommendations as to a brand of silicone? Thanks.
