Alain's empulse mods
« on: September 21, 2015, 02:28:53 AM »
After doing some repair work on my empulse after a stupid accident, I decided to draw the Line a little further and modify some thing that were on my wish list since buying "my precious".
It still is a work in progress, but a few photos show the general idea. More to follow...

I'll be doing similar things when I get my bike back from the shop.

I think I'm gonna get a gallon of Real Red Pearl plastidip from dipyourcar.com to spray my plastics.

So kind of half way between Automotive paint and Home Depot stuff. Also plastidip is removable.

Nope. 3m 1080 vinyl wrap. White carbon fiber and red reflecting rim stickers for the stripings. It was a pain in the butt to cover the fairings. Tank fairing took about 8 hours. I just hope it will hold a couple of years. I have no experience whatsoever, but with the right preparation, tools and hours of youtube...
Did repaint the bull's head logo with 2k spray paint, brand spray max. It's now completely covered in matte black (5%). I'll post the pictures as soon as I got them mounted since I'm still waiting for the double sided adhesive.

Sweet! A lot cheaper than vinyl... And faster results. Also, should last long (if done properly).
Be sure to post some pics when done.

Nice.. How hard was the wrap? Trying to get the bubbles out?

Clearing out the bubbles was not hard at all. And due to the carbon structure of the wrap a needle could be used to remove trapped air if necessary. Folds and the risk of overstretching were harder to manage since there are many curves and corners to handle. The "tank" had to be done in 2 pieces (left and right) The stripings came in handy to cover the overlap.
Don't think I will do it again some day soon. Vinyl wrap is great for the "uncomplicated" surfaces like the hood of a car.

Nice job.  I see you also added the pinstrip on the wheels.
