TCO Calculator Updated
« on: April 22, 2014, 04:59:45 PM »
Check out the new bikes! There are a few bugs left in the code that will prevent you from sharing your TCO comparison but I should have that ironed out by this week. The Brammo incentives on the 2013 models is a little old too. 2000 vs 2500, etc. Wanted to post here first before Twitter and Facebook in the case where you guys find any other errors.

Notice the change in URL and logo. ;)

You are missing the Zero S 14.2 "power tank" model like I have.  With it's price about the same as the SR, but with a longer range, it probably deserves its own model category.  If you really have a few bucks to spare you can also invest in a "power tank" equipped ZF14.2 SR. I believe that there are a few of those on the road right now.  I seem to recall that Motorcycle.com is testing that model right now, but I am still waiting for them to publish their results.
current bikes: 2018 16.6 kWh Zero S, 2011 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Classic, 2009 BMW F650GS, 2007 BMW R1200R, 2005 Triumph T-100 Bonneville, 2002 Yamaha FZ1 and a 1978 Honda Kick 'N Go Senior.

Maybe other users know this,  but I discovered accidentally that once I load two bikes in the calculator, I can highlight either of the bike selection boxes (ebike or ICE) and use the down and up arrows to cycle through each item on the list, leaving the other bike static for comparison in the changing graphs. Cool.

I will definitely add the power tank option for the Zero S / DS and SR. Thanks for the feedback there.

Shiny, i didnt even know you could do that, lol.

Also notice that the source code is all there and not compressed or obfuscated in any way... a first for this project. This would be useful for those who would like to integrate this tool in on their website as long as they at least acknowledge my efforts.

PHP is not required... the extension is there but there is no dynamic code used at all. Everything is client side JS for this version.

Very nice site!
Some feedback: Can you add the Honda NC750 and Suzuki Vstrom 650 to the list? These are 2 of the most populair commuter bikes in these parts. Maybe do a Euro version?

There is a formatting problem on Chrome (possibly due to enabling large fonts because I'm on a Hi DPI monitor).  The Fuel Cost/Range field has "<input field> / some text" and that "some text" gets wrapped to a second line which is obscured (I can only see the tops of the letters and can't make it out).  I'm guessing it's "<cost> / kwh"?

Beautiful tool!  It would be interesting to be able to compare any two e-bikes against each other, for those like me who know they want an e-bike (preaching to the choir), but unsure which to invest in.  Thanks!

Finally got this thing updated. Sorry for the delay, life has been kicking my ass lately.

The share comp feature is working again:

http://bit.ly/1jwK82S

Dont be afraid to click that funny link, it basically uses a URL shortener to redirect to a long ass URL with all of the details, like this:

http://www.empulsebuyer.com/tcoCalculator.php?sTR=0&sTI=NA&eID=3&kWhC=0.11&eRng=121&mfgReb=1&iceID=3&msrp=13495&gC=4.05&mpg=45&oCC=40&oCI=9000&sC=650&sI=18000

See why a URL shortener is needed? :)

Flar, I think I fixed the formatting issue you mentioned.

E-bikes have essentially the same costs after the initial investment, with small differences in efficiency and maintenance of course. But too small to make much of a difference in TCO when comparing one e-bike to another.
