17 Mile Drive - History in the making
« on: July 26, 2012, 03:49:12 PM »
Good on ya', Gavin.  Looks like your idea about riding Brammos on Pebble Beach's 17 mile road is going to happen.
This pic was just posted to Facebook by Adam Lukoic, Brammo service manager:

Awesome. Electric = more roads open to motorcyclists. Can't argue with that.

Well done Gavin. It's great to see that:
a) the folks at Pebble Beach are not doing blanket rejection of motorcycles.
b) Gavin was able to effect real change by asking nicely.

The "Electric = more roads open to motorcyclists" argument has also been made "loud and clear" with things like dirt bike tracks in cities. There's no way that people would put up with those bikes with ICE's, but no problem with electrics.

Thanks! :)

My tweet...

@BrammoSays Since it opened, 17 Mile Drive has said,  No Motorcycles Allowed. Today 5 Brammo motorcycles change that! http://t.co/sOjF3Cyz

Will post photos after the ride...we go before sunset tonight

Gavin

The Pebble Beach people were great...nice people, no issues.
Must be my charm :)

Wow, my image of Pebble Beach just skyrocketed!

As a motorcyclist, I used to think their excuses for banning bikes were just that, excuses.  But if they are open-minded enough to let EV bikes out there, then I'll man up and be open-minded about Pebble Beach too.

I honestly never thought they would let you guys do it, Gavin.  I certainly was proven wrong in a big way!!  Good work!

Well the public relations guy was very nice. And he had it all set up with security so that they were expecting us. The security guard was happy to see us and asked us a few questions. He thought the bikes were great. (and didn't charge us either).

The ride itself was just lovely. The coast parts were really nice, but the inland parts were just as nice as we went through some great trees and hanging moss and nice twisties. Very enjoyable.

And they didn't just let me me...I brought my gang :)

Electric bike is THE way to do 17 Mile Drive. Open air, great vision and smells, little noise...and those twisties are so much more fun on 2 wheels vs 4.

We had planned to have five riders....

But one rider had to bail...so we had an extra bike.

At first Eric Bostrom and his Finance Rebecca were going to come. But there was some confusion and that fell away (too bad...both Eric and Rebecca are just the nicest people I've ever met)...Then a big wig from FIM? was going to come...but he was too busy at Seca.

The young lady is Sara, Adrian's assistant. A nice young lady who was sad she couldn't go (I gather she doesn't ride or have a license?)...when I mentioned my footpegs, well she was stoked and so I rode two up...

It was a grand time (except my taking one wrong turn), but that is all coming in my next blog post.
