Lightning breaks another land speed record
« on: November 20, 2012, 10:29:03 AM »
Here is a link to an article by Visor Down regarding Lightning Motorcycles's latest land speed record.  It mentions that they charged their battery pack with a photo cell trailer and includes a picture of the bike and trailer:

Here's an interview with Richard Hatfield:
http://gooddaysacramento.cbslocal.com/video/8043414-solar-motorcycle/

He mentions that the (presumably 12 kWh) pack is good for 20 miles @ 215 mph, 35 miles on a road course, or 100+ miles on the freeway.

215 mph: 12 kWh / 20 miles = 600 Wh/mile @ 129 kW average
road course: 12 kWh / 35 miles = 340 Wh/mile @ 70-100 mph average or 24-34 kW average
freeway: 12 kWh / 100 miles = 120 Wh/mile @ 70 mph (presumably), 8.4 kW average
