620 mile range, 10 minute charge.
« on: February 23, 2013, 07:31:53 PM »

These guys seem to be quite a bit optimistic. They are making all kinds of claims about range and recharge time that would be great, if they were provable.

1000 km (620 miles) range with a 10 minute recharge time.

Autoblog has some details:
http://green.autoblog.com/2013/02/22/chreos-ev-wildly-overpromises-600-mile-range-10-minute-charging

Here's the website for the car:
http://www.silexpower.com/chreos

I find this quote ironic:
Quote from: CEO of Silex
We felt that the market was missing an electric vehicle that was designed from grounds up to be an electric vehicle.

I think the CEO is describing the Tesla Model S there...

I'm curious as to how their 620 mile range battery could be charged in 10 minutes. The only way I could see that happening is if the charging process was massively parallel. The car would need hundreds of small batteries that could each be charged to full in 10 minutes. Perhaps they intend on using the new Graphene Supercapacitors that we've heard about.

Oh well. I wish them well, and hope it's not a scam.

It definitely looks like "Take the Model S.  Imagine what its stats would be with Graphene technology.  OK, let's make a video with lots of metallic reflections and world ecology documentary background music.  It's in the bag!"

That is a blatant "give me money" EV video if I ever saw one.

Yeah.

620 mile range? Model S is very aerodynamic. Not a ton of room for improvement unless you made the vehicle narrower, shorter, longer. So probably ~170 kWh (!) battery in there.

10 minute recharge? 170 kWh * 1/10 min = 1 MW of power, 6C charge rate.

Either they've found something truly game-changing or they're just releasing a bunch of numbers backed by speculative rendering.

Read up on graphene supercapacitors.  If they really believe they will reach production stages in that time frame then that's really the only advance they need for those specs...

My guess is that the car will be made in Nigeria and that you can send your $1000 deposit to that country to get on the waiting list.   ::)
