City Bike rides the RedShift BRD Supermoto
« on: April 28, 2013, 05:58:08 PM »
In the May issue of City Bike magazine (the issue with a cover showing a yellow 2013 Zero S performing a burn-out) is a full page review by Gabe Ets-Hokin, the magazine's editor, of the latest RedShift BRD Supermoto electric motorcycle. Unfortunately, BRD is still working on the "priceless" prototype and this was the only one in existence. It is said to represent "many thousands of development hours VC dollars". Production versions will have a $15,495 price tag. The bike is described as "a full-fledged racebike, designed to dominate in the 250 classes on Sunday - and then get ridden to work on Monday." Gabe was invited to ride the "priceless prototype" around San Francisco, where RedShift BRD is now headquarted. Needless to say, he was impressed with the bike's performance on city streets.

All of the chassis parts are said to be top-shelf and the suspension was sorted out by Super Plush. The motor makes 40 hp and pushes the 250-pound bike around with authority. Top speed is 75 mph, which is limited by the bike's gearing. The battery pack is 5.2 kWh and it is designed to last for "several sessions on the supermoto track, or 30 to 60 miles of spirited city riding".

Frankly, I am surprised that BRD is still working on this bike.  I thought is was supposed to hit the market last year.  I guess EV development always takes longer than planned.

They changed to a 2013 release date sometime early in 2012. They haven't done a ton of press coverage, but there have been fairly regular rider tests.

Here's where most of Gabe's City Bike stories seem to end up in on-line form.  Assuming it's the same story.

That looks like the same story to me. I would say that the motorcycledaily.com article was published just about the same time that City Bike went to the printer.
