Alta Motors shuts its doors
« on: October 18, 2018, 08:53:26 AM »
H-D swooped in and invested in the Alta Motors electric motorcycle company earlier this year. Then a few months later, (coincidentally?) after announcing their own line of future electric motorcycles, H-D pulled out of the deal, leaving Alta high and financially dry. Their cash has now run out and they have had to shut their Brisbane, CA, factory down and send their employees home until they can find new sources of funds, according to this article. (Not an easy thing to do for an electric motorcycle company in today's economy.) Here is the short version of the story: https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/news/alta-motors-ceases-operations/

As you all know, it is a tough life being a production electric motorcycle company.  :( Hopefully Alta will find some funds somewhere and be able to resume production of their unique and well designed motorcycles.  :)

This is a surprise. Of course, I base that on my viewing their Instagram feed which is always busy and full of activity. Kudos to their marketing team for that.

So sad they were revolutionizing the dirt bike world.  I got to ride a Redshift MX last weekend after an enduro event.  If I could afford one I would love to have one.  And not too long ago I saw the Redshift competing in the Carnegie Hillclimb Classic.  Hope they will survive they're down but not out of the fight yet.

In related news:  According to an article in Motorcycle Consumer News (page 9, November issue), Motus has had to cease their operations after the company's financial backers pulled out.   :(

In the same issue of the magazine MCN published a full test of a 2018 Zero S.  It was not one of their better reviews in my opinion.  :(

Here are a few more words regarding Alta shutting down production. The article ever mentions Alta joining Brammo in the dust bin.  :( It sure sounds like H-D might have greased their skids:

I shot this video right before the news Alta was going belly up.  Still would like an electric dirtbike.  I guess the FX is going to be only one for now.
