Saw this on Diginow's facebook post they teamed up with Fenix Motors and raced the Baja 1000 in an electric buggy. What better way to show how good your machine is than to compete in one of the most difficult offroad races on the planet! Link is for Fenix Motors facebook page. They had 3 sets of batteries and swap them out every 50 miles. So that's A LOT of swaps!
Someone should try to race a motorcycle! I think it's totally doable with swappable battery packs and a chase crew!

This is from one of their posts they almost finished but had to take a shortcut.
Baja 1000 in the first electric car.
This November, we set out to race the first all electric car at this year Baja 1000. We had had an interesting race. As this is our first prototype car, we were racing and learning at the same time; being the first car to be electric at Baja 1000, there is always room for improvement.
For this race we only had 3 battery sets that had to be changed every 50 miles. We wish we had access to more batteries, but our current budget does not allow it. During the Baja 1000, we felt this limitation especially severely. In the first quarter of the race, one of the batteries sustained damage which resulted in the possibility of a battery failure. The safety of our team is our priority, so even though the chance of a dangerous failure was very small, we decided not to use one of the packs out of the 3 we had. While we were charging the batteries on the go and changing them every 50 miles, having 2 batteries limited us to what we could do during the race and how much we could push the car on the course. Unfortunately we were not able to do all 820 miles of this race; we ended up cutting part of the course like the one for Class 11 and the Sportsman classes. As a result, we can’t officially say we finished the entire course of Baja 1000 and we don’t feel we can say we finished the entire Baja 1000. We feel that this decision was the best possible compromise between safety and pushing the limits of EV technology, but we want to make sure there is no misunderstanding, nor do we want to claim an accomplishment we have not yet achieved. This race was a good learning experience in regards of the capabilities for the electric car and where we need to improve; we believe we are pushing the revolution of Baja racing. We also believe we did a good job this year given that it was our first year in an all electric race car.
Next year we for sure going to race all 1000 miles of the next year Baja 1000 from Ensenada to La Paz; with help of sponsors for next year we can buy more battery packs which will help us to not have any problems or resource limitations on the track.
Thank you for following us and your support.Another webpage, they raced the Baja500 and 250
