Proposed U.S. EV rebate law details
« on: July 30, 2022, 11:50:01 AM »
Attached is an article regarding the details of the proposed U.S. law recently approved by the Senate which is now heading to the House of Representatives for approval. It would give an IRS credit to people buying a new or used electric vehicle. However, the hooks in the law are enough to make my head spin. So I am attaching a copy of the article that was published in my newspaper today and I will let you try to figure it out to determine if the credit would apply to your next EV purchase.

I think that both Zeros and the LiveWire One might be eligible for the credit because they are assembled in the U.S., however there are a lot of other restrictions that might potentially disqualify them. These rules are definitely not as simple as they used to be in the past.

As I suspected hardly anyone is going to get an EV purchase tax rebate when this law becomes effective next year. And that goes double for anyone who buys an electric motorcycle.  >:(

Just to complicate the transition from gasoline powered to electric vehicles is the issue of finding a working charging station, as explained in this New York Times article.

It looks like electric motorcycles have been cut out of the U.S. EV rebate law: https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/motorcycles-left-out-of-federal-incentives-for-electric-vehicles
