tough future ahead for California gas stations

Here is a long, but interesting article that was in my newspaper today regarding the tough future for gas stations in California when EV's become even more abundant than they already are. Apparently many of the independent gas station owners are dreading the future, especially after 2035 when nothing but new zero-emission vehicles will be sold. Attached is page one of the article.

That's how gas stations make money, they call it the gas station model.  Gas stations don't make money selling gas they make money selling other goods and services like monsters and car washes. 

There's a Rotten Robbie near my place and I notice recently they remodeled the gas station and they have a DC fast charger.  But yeah I can see it being tough because most EV owners will charge at home.  You pretty much have a gas station at home.

BTW, recent news reports say that the California refineries are the ones racking in the dough this year. Their profits have tripled this year and they are now making a profit of around one dollar for each gallon of gasoline sold in the state.    I wonder how much Rotten Robbie will be charging to use their new DC fast charger?

Not sure I'll go check sometime.  I think I've seen a Chevron with DC fastchargers also.  Probably not cheap that's for sure.  DC fastchargers are so expensive when you have to pay for them.

I have to say that it is a good spot right off 2 freeways.  There's food also.  Good for travellers.

It sounds like it is going to take Rotten Robbie a very long time to recoup their $150K investment. I note that most of the time the spaces are being used for parking by ICE vehicles. No big surprise there.

how much does a DC Fastcharger cost compared to a gas pump?  I know they are constantly maintaining those gas pumps and tanks also.

I bet Rotten Robbie is going to find out. And once he does the news will get around to other gas stations in short order.
