VCU, AIM questions

I've had my bike for 8 years and basically only ridden it because everything has just worked. No reason to touch it.
I'm starting research and learn what components are on the bike and what they do. I've found a lot of info in the forum but there are still a couple items I'm not clear on.
I know that the VCU and AIM are on top of the batteries behind the charge port. Which item is the VCU and which is the AIM and what do they do?
Thank you in advance for info.

Hi, The VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) will translate all the canbus messages to readable inputs and outputs for the system to run.
Also this is basically the brains of the bike.
The AIM module is a part of this inside the same box.
