So many people on this forum helped me with Brammo and the Victory, I cant thank them enough so i want to return that. I hope that the youtube videos are helpful. This forum is the best resource. I hope others can jump into these threads and post their opinions. We have a piece of history here that we are trying to preserve.

Cheers

I would also like to thank everybody participating the discussion and giving your valuable support and tipps.
Based on that I can announce a first success with my battery revival project:

Today and yesterday I externally charged module 4 for a few hours each day with 1-3A constant current. The communication cable was connected to module 4 and supplied 12V to the BMS.

When the power supply used for charging showed about 12.4V the green LED on module 4 switched from solid on to blinking. From then on the error message of the Batt Diag SW was gone and the correct product "Empulse - BPM1590" was displayed. The values read from module 4 now seem to make sense.

I stopped the charging at SOC 9%, I don't want to charge while I don't monitor it. Will continue tomorrow.
And I am curious how much SOC will be left when I continue.

Now, a few days later, I have charged module 4 several times for some hours reaching a reported SOC of 44%. However, always when I continue on the next day the diag software reports cell high about 3.4V and low about 2.0V and the module voltage is several Volts below I left it with the previous charging. The BMS sometimes has become inactive again, probably due to module voltages below 12 V. Green LED is then either solid on or long time on with short off times. My understanding is that it should blink about once per second if the status is ok.

So, I have come to the conclusion not to continue like this. The cells are very likely damaged if they rested totally discharged for 2 or 3 years. And I don't want to risk that they blow out or even catch fire.

I might disassemble one or all modules in the future to diagnose it or replace cells when I find the time to do it.

Is this battery completely isolated from the other batteries? are any of the power cables that interconnect the batteries connected to the one your are charging? If they are then try disconnecting or better yet remove the individual battery and then try charging.

The module 4 which I charged (upper front most) is still mounted in the bike connected to all other modules with the plug between upper and lower modules disconnected. The diagnosis cable is connected to the input of module 4, so the software can only "see" modules 4-7.

My power supply is connected directly to + and - of module 4. No other controllers on the bike are active. I cannot see what disconnecting the module would change. But I am happy to learn.

Removing the modules from the bike and trying to charge them or open them in a safe environment would be my next step. Later, when I find the time, meanwhile I have some fun riding my functional bike.

I have seen it live on Saturday and Ive got the same opinion: A great colour scheme for the Empulse!!
But also given the discussions we had live in person during a forum meeting at a cafe I guess ways_ahead will think twice before continuing revival of his batteries...

As my favourite doctor used to say: Its dead, Jim! ::)

There might come a point in time when I start rebuilding the modules with new cells which can replace the old ones keeping the same BMS.
