10,000 Mile Club
« on: July 16, 2014, 10:13:18 PM »
Just became eligible  8)

I know I'm not the first, but with how brutal our winter was last year here in Chicago, I bet I won't be seeing any others for a while.

Absolutely no regrets so far.

Congratulations.

A lot of people got a head start on me as I didn't get my E1 until last May.  I'm just about to hit 9000 this week.  We have good weather in Oregon now.  I should hit 10000 by September.

I took delivery towards the end of February last year. I had 7k on the clock when I put her away last winter. I've been riding my bicycle more, so not quite as much time on the scooter this year.

Wow CAT, I don't know if you remember, but I was still waiting for my bike when I heard you regenning down North Point St one night around 7:30 PM in San Francisco in front of the Holiday Inn Express. I had never heard the Empulse before and I was so excited, I crossed the street to talk to you. YOU were so excited because you had just discovered Sport mode! Good to hear you're still wearing the BrammoGrin!

I just did my 18K oil change and am also loving every minute in the saddle. I don't ever want to go back to gas!

Empulse E1 10,000 miles over 14 months.
Rear tire replaced at 3,000 miles (nail)
Front replaced at ~6,000 miles (wanted better rain tire - PS4)
Front wheel bearing replaced, although I'm skeptical anything was really wrong with it.
New handle bar & turn signal after shop dropped the bike.
No issues other than one fault at stop light.

OEM tires at 6K, replaced with PR4's which are still on, but the rear will be due fairly soon.
Original clutch.
Grips are a bit worn, but I never change those until they're in shreds!
Changed rear brake pads at 15K. Fronts are still fine.
Changed chain at 15K and added an oiler, so should get 30K out of the new one. Like Jeff and Brian, I also increased the rear sprocket to 42T at that time. Changed front sprocket too, though it had no visible wear, but I always change sprockets and chains together.

Well, as it's only my second bike, does my clutch have to be changed? Every once in a while it kinda slips when I'm changing gears,, just that funny sound,,, like it's slipping,,

The grips don't bother me,, but my buddy thinks it should look better weft only 20 months,,,

I DEFINATELY feel better in the new tires,,, wasn't even thinking about a new chain,,,
Would the new chain be more of a preventative kind of thing?

A chain should be replaced when it exceeds it wear limits, measured by length between two points, or using a gauge that does the same thing; OR when there are links that are stiff. Your dealer can check both for you if you don't want to research it on the internet.

In my case, the length was half-way between "new" and "replace", but there were 3 frozen links and I wanted to try the increased rear sprocket size anyway. Replacing chain and sprockets and adding an oiler was fairly expensive, but I've now got a system that should last 30 to 40K miles with minimal maintenance (wipe down the chain, rim, etc every couple of months when I refill the oiler's reservoir). After initial adjustments over the first couple of weeks on the new chain, I haven't had to adjust it in the last 4K miles.

If a clutch is slipping the "funny sound" should be the motor spinning up. Do you see the tach needle advancing but the bike is not accelerating? If not, your clutch is not slipping.
