System Fault C2 - L2 charging issue
« on: December 09, 2020, 04:23:30 PM »
Has anyone seen this before? This is only happening with Level 2 charging and I can only charge now at my house via Level 1.

check the cables from the onboard charger to the battery and chargeport. and also the fuses.

I assume the only way to check the fuses is with a multimeter?

I checked the cables for obvious damage/melting but didn't see anything.

Also check the chargeport itself (and the mating connector on any L2 charger you are trying to use) for any damaged or corroded pins.  The fact that it's charging on L1 but not L2 may be a communication issue or a voltage sense problem.

I just verified that all fuses are good using a multimeter... how would I diagnose/fix a communication or voltage sense issue?

It recently happened to me that I forgot to turn off the ignition when I arrived at the L2 charging station. After connecting the cable, I received a C2 error. So I had to turn off the ignition first and then the charging started successfully without error C2.

I didn't have the key in the ignition and I am still receiving this error... but I have just been charging at home via level 1 charger for now.

Is there anyone here in/near Texas that is willing to help help me out? I'm willing to pay for the help!

I don't know how level 2 charging stations work in Texas, but I'll try to describe charging at these stations in our country (Czech Republic, Europe). Because if I don't follow a certain procedure to start charging, I will also get a C2 error and charging won't start.

The procedure is as follows:

1) I park the motorcycle and turn off the ignition

2) I plug one end of the charging cable into a socket on the charging station.
The station detects that the cable is connected and instructs me to connect the cable to the charging port of the motorcycle.

3) I connect the other end of the charging cable to the bike and the charging station informs me that the bike is connected to it.

4) At this critical moment, I must (using a mobile application or chip) enable charging as soon as possible and the charging station will start communication with the connected motorcycle. Then level 2 charging starts successfully.
But, I have to allow charging to start before the motorcycle finds out that the cable from the charging station is connected to it (point number 3), its display lights up and starts communicating with the station!!!
If I don't make it fast enough, charging will not start, the station will report that it is busy and error C2 will appear on the motorcycle display!

I will add the information that error C2 also appears briefly, when I charge the motorcycle in the garage from a 240V socket using EVSE level 1 and disconnect EVSE from the port on the motorcycle during charging. (This will also happen when charging level 2.)

Does it happen to you too?

If I unplug EVSE first from the wall socket (or charging cable from station socket), error C2 will not appear. But this is not a recommended way to end charging.

Yes, I do sometimes see the C2 error when disconnecting my Level 1 charger in my garage.

It hasn't caused any issues...

I need to get ahold of a level 2 charger for my house and see if that works then. I just haven't figured out how to get charging to work at an EV charge station around the city but it sounds like there's some finesse to it.

How do you control the level 2 charging stand in the picture in your first post?
Are there any other types of charging stands in your city?

It is important that the charging stand starts the communication associated with the start of charging before bike realizes that the charging cable is connected to it (sequence about 2-3 seconds before the display on the bike lights up) !!

This happened to me once and I noticed the locking clip on the tank side socket was broken.
I removed the broken clip all together, so the fault switch isn't engaged.
Worked fine ever since.
Modifications so far:
Crash bungs
shortened chain tensioner bolts
