speedo
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:16:00 PM »

May we please have digital speedo like every other sport bike.

And a gear position display too since it will be 6 speed. Less guesswork = safer riding.

I can live with an analog speedo, but with an electric motor, a gear position indicator would be a necessity, in my opinion.

Heck, I like that speedo. Easier to see in bright sunlight/glare,might be 5mph off on the glance but that's OK. Gear indicater a must. What resevoir is that on the right? Coolant? Brake?

That's for the brakes.  The reservoir on my Enertia is a rectangular black box.  I recall that Brian modified his with a Magura cylinder: http://brammofan.wordpress.com/2010/01/25/magura-brake-mod-on-brians-enertia/

Unfortunately, the picture in that post was from the elmoto forum, prior to its implosion, so the picture wasn't preserved.  Anywho... it was the start of what I call the "specimen bottle era" in Brammo braking systems.

I love the look of an analog dial speedo, but agree that digital is probably a bit better...

I actually like a speedo with both.

I hope we get the American speedo....every time I seen the Brammo speedo with the KPH big and the MPH small I cringe...that is the way my scooters are and I dislike it quite a bit...though people will be impressed and ask me if my scooter actually goes 180 mph :)

I will tell them I've had it up over 150 before...of course that is 150 kph...or around 93 mph...

Gavin

as for reservoir...yep, brakes...i like the clear bottle as it is easy to see if fluid is low or dirty (of course it should be sealed tightly and never get dirty, but it is nice to see)

I'm not real clear on the benefit of a digital speedo. As for the gear indicator - I've never had one on an ICE bike and think I've only misjudged my gearing once or twice. On an electric there actually isn't likely to be a heck of a lot of difference between two gears so missing by one may not make much difference.

As for the drawbacks, there is already a lot of text to view on the LCD and having the analog speedo makes it easier for me to watch both.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if they stick with minor changes to the cluster as I would have to assume they have more important things to worry about to get production going.

YEOW!! Holy sheeva!I don't need an atomic powered speedo! A simple analog/cable driven, traditional set-up will do nicely. That....thing on the link might as well be a buggy whip. What's about it that commands that price? Nieman-Marcus? The Sharper Image? >:(

It's a low-volume, high-ish-end data acquisition device with onboard data logging. It's a very specialized product catering to a niche market with lots of money to spend - racing ain't cheap.

There's a non-data logging variant that may be cheaper - haven't been able to find a quote online, prices are all "call for a quote" = $$$. Still, the Motec dash (as used on the Empulse RR), cost aside, isn't really intended for production use.

A similar digital dash without the logging capability might be only a few hundred dollars.

I'd be surprised to see a cable driven speedo since they already have all the information they need from the controller to display the speed. The Enertia isn't cable-driven.

Unless you change the Wheel size or something, that should work, right?
